The 16thChina Daily “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition Finals were held on April 8 to 10 in Shenzhen Pavilion Hotel. Ding Ameng, the student in 08-2 class of English Department behaved very well and ultimately won the third prize, which made a breakthrough in HUST history of this event. Yang Xin, the teacher from the School of Foreign Languages, was the instructor and leader of the team. This event has been greatly supported by the Teaching Division and the School of Foreign Languages.
62 students across the country broke through the stiff competition and eventually qualified for the finals this year, 62 universities including Tsinghua University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shanghai Fudan University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Macau University, Fu Jen Catholic University (Taiwan). After 3 days of competition, Xu Jieru, from Tsinghua Universitywas named the champion.The second and third places went toZhang Xiaojie from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Liu Shiqiu from South China University of Technology respectively. Ding Ameng fom HUST shared the third prize, together with students from Shanghai Fudan University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Xiamen University, Dalian Foreign Languages Institute, and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and universities.
