The 7thNational Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Design Competition—Sinopec and Mitsui Chemicals—was held in Harbin Engineering University from Aug. 19thto Aug. 22nd. This competition was hosted by Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, China Education Association of Chemical Industry, Chemical Engineering and Technology Professional Teaching Guidance Committee of Ministry of Education. There were 48 universities taking part in this competition, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, Sichuan University, etc.
The delegation from our university was under the support of the leaders of the Dean’s office, and organized by Guo Ying and Shang Yan from School of Chemical Engineering. Five students took part in the competition: Fu Jianjun, Xin Shuwen, Li Chao, Zhang Jianxin and Mao Xuming. After 3-round competition during the four days, they achieved the first prize. At the same time, the teacher Che Chengbin from our university was employed as the judge by the competition committee.
The teachers and students worked hard for five months and a summer vacation, researching a lot of materials and investigating the independent design process. In the national final, they gained excellent evaluation from the experts and judges by their solid theoretical basis, reasonable design and intelligent logic and answers. At the same time they won honor for our university. In this competition, they showed the creation ability and team spirit of our university students.
The National Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Design Competition began in 2007, and it has been the 7thtill now. originally only 8 universities sent their delegations, but now 174 universities sent more than 1400 delegations to take part in this competition. The students are all full-time undergraduate students, who take part in the competition in the form of team. The competition has preliminary stage and final stage. In the preliminary stage, there are 8 divisions which are Southern China, Eastern China, Northwest China, Northern China, Central China, Northeast China, Southwest China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
