The 12th National Symposium on Physics Experimental Teaching in Colleges and Universities was successfully held in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province. During the evaluation of self-made teaching experimental instruments, HUST proudly secured three national awards. Among them, the self-made equipment “Comprehensive Optical Measurement Experimental System” developed by the team led by Professor Zhao Bo from School of Science won the first prize nationwide. And there were only 20 first prizes awarded in this competition. Furthermore, two other self-made instruments, developed by Professor Lu Shijie’s team from School of Science, garnered the national second and third prizes. This represents the best performance HUST has achieved in this type of competition.
The “Comprehensive Optical Measurement Experimental System” is a distinctive experimental project offering a series of experiments derived from cutting-edge scientific research content. This project has already supported undergraduates in participating in numerous discipline competitions, achieving a series of representative outcomes, including the national first prize in the “Challenge Cup” Black Technology Competition and the National First Prize in the “China Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition”.
The National Seminar on Physics Experiment Teaching in Colleges and Universities is held every two years, co-organized by the Teaching Guidance Committee for Physics Specialty of Colleges and Universities under the Ministry of Education, the Teaching Guidance Committee for University Physics Courses under the Ministry of Education, and the National Research Association for Experimental Physics Teaching in Colleges and Universities. The Symposium aims to explore new concepts, new technologies, and new methods in physics experiment teaching. Additionally, a competition for teachers' self-made instruments is held every four years as part of the symposium. In this edition of the competition for self-made teaching and experimental instruments, 146 universities participated, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Fudan University.
During the crucial period of preparing for the undergraduate education teaching audit and evaluation, the achievement of these three national awards not only signifies that the investment in HUST’s self-made equipment cultivation project is gradually yielding results, but also marks a significant advancement in our university’s efforts to advance teaching reform, emphasize experimental and practical teaching, and enhance students’ innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities.
