To promote the educator spirit, strengthen educational power, and show respect for retired teachers, HUST launched an activity themed “Expressing Care, Listening to Suggestions, and Promoting Development” to visit retired teacher representatives on the occasion of the 40th Teachers’ Day. From September 3rd to 4th, Zhao Lin, Secretary of the University Party Committee, Liu Xia, President of the University, and Yang Zhongxue, Vice President of the University, visited and extended their greetings to Professor Zhou Shichang and Professor Ren Shanzhi, retired teachers of our university.
“Thanks for your contributions to HUST’s development!” “How are you feeling physically?” “We’d love to hear your suggestions and opinions on the development and construction of our university.” ... The university leaders visited the homes of the two retired professors, engaging in heartfelt conversations with them. They expressed gratitude for their contributions to our university’s development and construction over the years, while also showing concern for their living conditions and physical health. They attentively listened to the professors’ innermost thoughts and feelings, inquired about the problems and needs they faced in retirement, and earnestly sought their suggestions and opinions for the university’s development. They introduced the current situation and development prospects of HUST to the two retired professors, expressing the hope that while taking good care of their health, the professors would continue to show concern, attention, and support for the university’s endeavors, actively offer suggestions and advice, and make ongoing contributions to HUST’s development and construction.
Professors Zhou Shichang and Ren Shanzhi expressed their sincere gratitude for the visit of the university leaders and their heartfelt pride and satisfaction with the achievements HUST had made in recent years. Looking back on the eventful years, they were filled with emotion and nostalgia. These years documented their academic pursuits and educational practices, marking a history filled with challenges and achievements. Looking forward, they were even more confident and hopeful, wishing that HUST would stay true to its original mission of fostering virtue through education, uphold its responsibility to cultivate talents for the party and the country, focus on key tasks in discipline construction, and achieve even more outstanding results on the new journey of building a domestically leading university of science and technology with distinct characteristics.
During the visit, the university leaders extended their care to the professors, listened to their suggestions, and promoted the development of HUST, while also wishing the retired teachers a happy Teachers’ Day in advance. They expressed their gratitude to every member of the Harbin University of Science and Technology community who had contributed to the university’s development and construction. Every achievement made by HUST was inseparable from the care and support of the retired colleagues. The retired teachers were valuable treasures to our university, not only forming the cornerstone of the university culture but also transmitting the spirit and values of the older generation of educators. The university leaders wished all retired colleagues good health, happiness, and a joyful Teachers’ Day.
