President Liu Xia’s Delegation Visiting Queen’s University Belfast and London Metropolitan University

From 25th June to 29th, at the invitation of Queens University Belfast and London Metropolitan University, President Liu Xia led a delegation of 4 people to the UK for inter-university exchange and cooperation visits. The purpose of this visit is to consolidate and deepen the exchanges and cooperation between our university and high-level universities in the UK, promote the construction of double first-class of the university, and accelerate the internationalization of the university. During the visit, the delegation had extensive and in-depth exchanges and reached agreements with British universities on teacher exchange visits, joint training, scientific research cooperation, etc., and signed an inter-university cooperation agreement with the two universities.

At Queen’s University Belfast, the delegation first met with Margaret Topping, Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation, and Richard Collins, Dean for International Cooperation in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Vice-Chancellor Margaret Topping expressed his deep welcome to the delegation of Harbin University of Science and Technology to visit Queen’s University, and expressed his willingness to further explore the potential of cooperation based on the advantages of both disciplines and professional fields, and promote broader cooperation and exchanges between the two universities. President Liu Xia said that Queen’s University has a long-standing reputation in Northern Ireland, and Harbin University of Science and Technology will uphold the concept of “working hand in hand and win-win cooperation” to further deepen mutual learning, expand cooperation areas, achieve complementary advantages, and promote all-round exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. Through the introduction and in-depth understanding of the two sides, the two universities reached an agreement on cooperation in the dual degree program of master’s degree, joint training of doctoral students, visiting research and training of teachers, and joint scientific research. Subsequently, Principal Liu Xia and Vice Principal Margaret Topping jointly signed an inter-university cooperation agreement.

During the visit, the delegation met with Wendy McKnight, Head of International Affairs at the School of Business, and Wasif Naeen, Director of Internationalisation in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, to learn more about the Economics Management and Computer Science majors at Queen’s University and discuss the details of the next step in the collaboration. The delegation also visited the Students’ Union, the Library and the School of Graduate Studies on the main campus of Queen's University, and learned more about the University’s history, faculty and international student support services.

At London City University, the delegation met with Vice-Chancellor Sionade Robinson, Professor Kenneth TV Grattan, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Veselin Rakocevic, Associate Dean for Investment Co-development and Admissions in the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Sanowar Khan, Associate Dean for Student and Faculty Experience. The two sides jointly reviewed the cooperation over the years and introduced the latest development of the two universities, as well as the needs and goals of cooperation in terms of internationalization, and reached a cooperation intention on the “4+0” model to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education programs, joint training of graduate students, visiting teachers for research and training, joint scientific research, etc., and will further implement the details of cooperation. Subsequently, Principal Liu Xia and Vice Principal Sionade Robinson jointly signed an inter-university cooperation agreement.

During the visit, the delegation had a meeting with Professor Caroline Li of the Faculty of Science and Technology to learn more about the curriculum and research projects of related majors. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory and the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the School of Science and Technology.

This visit has strengthened the exchanges and cooperation between our university and high-level universities in the UK, and is also an important measure for the university to promote high-quality development, improve the quality of international talent training, and build a new pattern of education opening up.












The heads of the International Cooperation Division, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Computer Science and Technology accompanied the visit.
