At 9:00 a.m. on November 18th, theFourth Student Convention and theFourth Graduate Student Convention of Harbin UniversityofScience and Technology opened in the grand national anthem. Present at the opening ceremony were Zhao Shuishan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, the president of the Students’ Federation of Heilongjiang Province,and representatives fromthe OrganizationDepartment, the Communication Department, the Student Work Department, the Youth League Committee, the Academic Affairs Department, the Security Department,andthe Physical Education Department. The vice secretary of the party committee of each college, secretary of the Youth League Committee, secretary-general of the student union and 459 representatives of the student convention and the graduate student convention also participated in the meeting. Rongcheng College participated in the meeting online.
At the opening ceremony, Zhao Shuishan, on behalf of the Party Committee of the school,extended hiscongratulation onthe opening of the convention. He expressed warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the Youth League of the province, the Provincial Student Federation, as well as various departments who have long demonstrated care and support for the youth work of the school. He also extended his cordial greetings to all the representatives and all the young students in the school.He fully affirmed the efforts made by the Student Union and Graduate Student Union in the reform of the student union organization as well as the development and construction of school. He also gave guidance on how to carry out theme education, and put forward requirements for the deepeningofreform and construction of the student union organization.
He pointed out that at present, the school is fully implementing the“14th Five-Year Plan”in accordance with the spirit of the 4th Party Convention, and is continuously striving to build a“distinctive and top-tier science and technology university in China”.It is urgent for young students to devote themselves to the development and construction of the school and contribute their youthful strength with a high sense of political responsibility and historical mission. Therefore, he proposed three hopes for the young students: Firstly, students should have lofty aspirations and become contributors, be loyal to the country and the people, and with responsibility inspired by high ideals and moral character cultivated by core values; secondly, students should be steady and brave to go forward, refusing to“lying flat”, and demonstrate the youthful responsibility of striving in the new journey and making achievements in the new era; thirdly, students should conscientiously carry out their duties, remaining committed to self-reform. Continuously deepened reform is needed to address the issues of alienation from fellow students, bureaucratism, vulgarization, and other problems that exist in a few student unions.In closing, he emphasized that all levels of student union organizations should closely focus on the overall development of the university and find the entry point of the work, inherit and carry forward the fine traditions, become the“flag-bearer”of the majority of young people,continue tolead, cohere, unite, mobilize, and serve young students, and firmly become qualified builders and reliable successor of socialism with Chinese characteristics. They should contribute their youthful power to building our school into a first-class university of science and technology with distinctive characteristics.
Jiang Lingde, the executive chairman of the Provincial Student Union, addressed the meeting. On behalf of the Heilongjiang Provincial Student Union, he expressed warm congratulations on the convening of the meeting and recognized the continuous efforts of the Student Union and the Postgraduate Union of Harbin University of Science and Technology, which serve as a bridge and link between the Party and the school, and have made positive contributions to the construction and development of the Heilongjiang Provincial Students’Federation.
On behalf of the Student Union of Harbin University of Science and Technology,Chu Yu,the executive chairmanof the third session of of the Student Union, made a report entitled “Youth Serving the Party, Striving with Vigour, and Writing a New Chapter of Serving the StudentswithHeart and Soul”. The group discussions were lively, with representatives speaking actively and discussing the Student Convention report. All delegates in accordance with the established agenda and the election method of the assembly, and through democratic voting, elected the member of the fourth student union presidium and the fourth postgraduate student union presidium. At the closing ceremony, all delegates considered and passed the“Report on the Work of the Third Term Student Union of Harbin University of Science and Technology,”and other relevant resolutions. Then they determined the fourth permanent representatives of the Student Union and the fourth postgraduate student union. Hu Hairui, Yu Hongxuan, Xing Qiyuan, Li Hanbo and Zhang Yusong were elected as the members of the fourth Student Union presidium, and Wang Chao, Wang Meng, Gao Yurong, Gu Chao and Xu Shuyu were elected as the members of the fourth Graduate Student Union presidium. The conference solicited opinions from 459 students in 12 colleges and formed 45 proposals in the areas of education and teaching, growth and success, life services, rights and interests, etc. After the conference, the proposals will be sent to the relevant departments and replies will be made to the proposals.
The convening of the Student Convention and the Graduate Student Convention fully demonstrates the vibrant and enterprising spirit of our young students, and is a youthful gathering that brings together strength and pursues authenticity and practicality. The new Student Union and Graduate Student Union, under the leadership of the Party Committee of the university and the Provincial Students’ Federation, and under the guidance of the Youth League Committee of the university, will deeply study, publicize and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress, combine the reform requirementswithpractical work of the student union, and fully demonstrate their exemplary and leading role. They will strive to strengthen their political consciousness, advanced nature, and orientation toward the people, and make efforts to play the functions of self-service, self-management, self-education,and self-supervision,and work with devotion to serve students. We will also work hard on the subject of serving students, endeavour towalk side by sideon the road of students’growth and success, and lead the young students of the university to contribute their youthful wisdom and strength in the new journey of building a distinctive and first-class science and technology university.
