Recently,A Notification on Ministry of Education Record and Result of Examination and Approval of 2017 Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Majors(Education Letter [2018] 4) was released by Ministry of Education and New Energy Material and Devices Major applied by the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of HUST was approved to set.

New energy material and devices major is newly added to 2011 national directory, aiming at the research and development of new-generation high performance green energy material, technology and devices (such as the power source of telecommunication, automobiles and medical treatment field), promotion of new energy materials (new lithium ion battery materials, new fuel cell materials and new solar cell materials), and the cultivation of specialized personnel.

In recent years, HUST has adhered to highlighting the characteristics of the industry and major, actively serving the demand of national strategies, industry development and regional economy, laying out new engineering; in accordance with the principle of “clear goal, discipline advantages and the needs of society”, HUST has given priority to the needs of society and the all-round development of students, fully considered the support for the discipline construction, actively cultivated and supported the newly emerging industry to meet the social demand for talents; on the basis of the advantageous disciplines, HUST has added the Energy Material and Devices Major and other new majors which conform to the national strategic needs.

Currently, HUST has boasted 61 undergraduate majors, including engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, philosophy and art, 8 types of disciplines and 31 professional classes, of which 8 majors are national first-class specialties, 1 the national undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot major, 3 national excellent engineer implementation majors, 2 provincial excellent engineers implementation majors, 19 provincial key majors and 6 provincial undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot majors. A professional system has been formed with the focus on engineering, with characteristics of machinery and electricity, and with coordinated development of multi-disciplines of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art, philosophy and other disciplines.
