On July 12, the first lecture, as well as the commencement ceremony for “Sunrise Team” of HUST’s School of Automation, was held in Room E1412 of New Main Teaching Building, West Campus, with Professor You Bo from Academic Board of School of Automation as the keynote speaker.

As a project of School of Automation to fulfill the theory of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude so as to cultivate a group of high-quality talents among undergraduates and promote a better style and circumstance of study in the School by drawing upon their examples, “Sunrise Team” was made up of some Automation-majored undergraduates of Grade 2015 who were selected by a half-year tryout proving them to be interested in scientific innovation and keen on further research as well as practice. All team members, as well as their tutor, Xie Guihua, a counsellor from Automation Department, attended the ceremony.

In his lecture, Prof.You started form calling on the “Sunrise Team” members to think over five questions, namely, “who am I”, “What do I want to be”, “What’s my advantage”, “What should I do” and “What surroundings support me”, stressing on the necessity to orient a proper position for each student. Then he introduced the features and status quo of automation industry, underlined the importance of laying a solid foundation in English, Maths and computer operation techniques. He also illustrated the School’s policy of postgraduate recommendation in great details with the help of big data.

To draw nearer with the audience, Prof. You cited plenty of cases from his students, his colleagues, and himself. He even turned the lecture into a informal discussion with the attendees at last, which prolonged the ceremony to a full 3-hour one altogether.
