On the morning of Jan. 21, 2011, Mr. David Mulroney, Canadian ambassador to China, Mr. Martin Jason, commercial counselor of the Canadian Embassy in China, and trade representative Miss Wang Pei visited our university, and had a seminar with students.
President Li Dayong and Vice President Zhao Hong met with the distinguished guests.
On behalf of HUST, President Li Dayong extended his warm welcome to the distinguished guests and expressed gratitude to Mr. David Mulroney for visiting HUST during the short visit to Heilongjiang province. Then Mr. Li introduced the development of HUST and briefly looked back on the achievements made by Canadian universities and HUST. Moreover, Mr. Li mentioned particularly the cooperation between Capilano College and HUST, and hoped to continue the cooperation to train more international talents.
During the visit, Vice President Zhao Hong introduced briefly the technological and educational cooperation between Canadian universities and HUST, which greatly benefitted HUST and Heilongjiang province. In addition, Mr. Zhao mentioned the alumni association in Canada, the largest overseas alumni association of HUST, which has played an important part in Sino-Canadian cooperation.
Miss Susan Watson, the international project administrator of Capilano College, said that they were very glad to continue the cooperation with HUST, and would welcome teachers and students of HUST to study and do research in their university.
Mr. David Mulroney, Canadian ambassador to China, appreciated the warm and considerate reception by our university. He also mentioned that education had become an important part of Sino-Canadian cooperation according to the cooperation policies formulated by President Hu and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in June, 2010. As the ambassador, he has already regarded embassy as an educational organization to promote educational cooperation and augment the bilateral communication in respect of environmental protection, energy, education, etc. Besides, through the cooperation between Capilano College and HUST, Chinese students could acquire both knowledge and cultural, social and technological information of Canada. Meanwhile China could bring more opportunities to cooperate with Canada. Finally he said he would be available for meeting with members of the alumni association of HUST in Canada.
After the visit, the delegation had a seminar with the students from the School of International Culture and Education. Through the in-depth communication with the students, Mr. David Mulroney had a better understanding of the students’ benefit brought by Sino-Canadian cooperation and their opinions about international education.
On the afternoon of Jan. 20, 2011, Mr. Du Jiahao, the member of Provincial Committee and Standing Committee, the Vice Governor of Heilongjiang province, met with and entertained the delegation led by Mr. David Mulroney. President Li was also invited to attend the reception. The attendees also included Miss Susan Watson, the international project administrator of Capilano College, Professor Jose Adeekadan from Capilano College, Professor Wu Xiuhua, the Dean of the School of International Culture and Education, Professor Wang Yuqi and Professor Sun Mingzhe, the Vice Deans of the School of International Culture and Education, Professor Xi Zhaohui, the Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Professor Liu Liqun, the Vice Dean of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and Shao Yang, the project administrator of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges.
