Gao Jun, the Party Secretary of Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) was invited to attend 2010 (Shenzhen) International Seminar of China’s Smart Grid Key Technology and Inauguration Ceremony of Shenzhen Smart Grid Industry Innovation Union held on Nov. 19. HUST became one of the Union’s governing units.

Shenzhen Clou Electronics Co., Ltd., the launching unit of the Union, is the undertaker of this seminar and ceremony. Its board chairman Rao Luhua, the alumnus of HUST, is the Union’s Chairman. Nearly 200 people attended the seminar and ceremony, including Lu Qiang, the Vice Chairman of Chinese Democratic League (CDL) Central Committee and Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, Cheng Shijie, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, Gu Guobiao and Zheng Jianchao, Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Hi-technology Development and Industrialization Department of Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen Science and Industry Technology Information Commission (SZSITIC). The attendees also included listed companies, smart grid-related companies and HUST National Science Park.

Shenzhen Smart Grid Industry Innovation Union is based on industry-university-research system mainly set up by the Ministry of Science & Technology. Under the direct guidance of the Science & Technology Department of Guangdong Province, SZSITIC, and Nanshan District Government, the Union is initiated by Shenzhen Clou Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and other five listed companies combining with Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Southeast University, and Harbin University of Science & Technology, etc. (37 units totally). The Union will build a research-based industrial park to address the bottlenecks in the development of local enterprises, attract foreign investment and create hundreds of billion-scale smart grid industrial chain. Moreover, the Union will also establish a research institute to bring together the world’s top R&D resources and resolve the problem of lacking high-end R&D resources. Besides, it will continue to run (Shenzhen) International Seminar of China’s Smart Grid Key Technology to attract multinational corporations and domestic equipment manufacturing enterprises developing and investing in Shenzhen. Joining this Union will promote HUST’s discipline construction and industry-university-research cooperation.

During the seminar, academicians and top experts made brilliant speeches. Gao Jun had friendly exchanges with some of the academicians and union members, visited Shenzhen (national) Virtual University Science Park, and discussed about school-enterprise cooperation and common development.
