October of 2010 saw a 10-day visit (from Oct.12 to 22) made by a delegation from Harbin University of Science and Technology to four of its sister universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong respectively.
The delegation was led by Gao Jun, Party Secretary of HUST CCP Committee. The other three members were Zhang Su, the dean of HUST’s Rongcheng School, Xiu Guoyi, the dean of HUST’s Economics School, and Li Qinghua, the dean of HUST’s Marxism School.
The first stop of the mission is Chung Hua University, Taiwan, where about a dozen of HUST undergraduates were studying. Secretary Gao visited these students and the university library, engineering lab, Center of Art & Culture,ChungHua Academy and Center of Innovation and Creation. They also met Mr. Huang Hexin and Mr. Sha Yongjie, President of Chung Hua University and discussed issues on cultivating talents innovation.
The second stop of the mission is National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, whose vice president Deng Yingyao, dean of Management School Xu Shoude, vice director of international affairs Su Hongwei, and EMBA executive Zheng Yi met them and they shared working experience with each other. After the meeting, the delegation was shown around the Gallery of University History, teaching buildings and campus accompanied by vice director Su, etc.
The third stop of the mission is City University of Hong Kong,where the delegation members were interviewed by Cheng Xing, the vice president, and one official from the Mainland-oriented Association & Foreign Affairs. Both sides showed a great interest in the superior subjects the other had and offered to launch cooperation in these fields. Then, the delegation enjoyed the colorful activities on the campus culture square.
The fourth stop of the mission is the University of Hong Kong. Here the delegation had a constructive conference with Li Anguo, the vice Dean of HKU’s engineering school and Zhong Jin, associate professor in Smart Grid Lab on item cooperation, as well as international school-running ideas. Later, the delegation came to see the statue of Sun Yat-sen, who had once studied here, the 100-year-old office building, etc.
During the journey, the delegation also called in Hsinchu Science Park, the Silicon Valley of Taiwan. The garden is the oldest as well as the largest science park in Taiwan, neighboring a number of universities and research institutes. After surveying the park, Secretary Gao introduced HUST’s national science park to Yan Zongming, the chief of garden management. Great enthusiasm was shown in the discussion on the future cooperation of the two science gardens.
By this visit, HUST helped a lot to enhance the emotion between Mainland Chinese and Taiwan-hongkong Chinese, and as an outcome of its overseas educational cooperation seeking, the contracts signed would benefit a lot to HUST’s further development in the 12thnational “five-year program” period.
