8th HUST Foreign Language Festival Concludes Successfully

On the evening of Nov. 27th, 2010, the closing ceremony of the 8thHUST Foreign Language Festival sponsored by the Academic Affairs Office and the Language Center of the School of Foreign Languages began in the Lecture Hall 0220 of No. 1 Building on West Campus of HUST. Mr. Meng Dawei, Vice President of HUST, leaders from the Academic Affairs Office, Students Affairs Office, Foreign Languages School and other relevant departments as well as 600 students attended the closing ceremony.

Mr. Meng Dawei, Vice President of HUST, delivered a fantastic speech in English for the closing ceremony. He said that the Foreign Language Festival has made great contributions to improving foreign languages teaching quality, stimulating foreign language learning interest, and enriching campus culture. Consisting of diverse foreign language contests and functioning as an extension of classroom teaching, the Festival has built an indispensable platform for the cultivation of the comprehensive ability of the students. Meanwhile, he also extended his congratulations to the students who have received diverse awards in various international and national contests, and his gratitude for the diligent work and selfless sacrifice to the relevant departments, faculties and students.

The inspiring speech from the Vice President impressed the audience so deeply that the whole lecture hall echoed with prolonged applause. After that, the audiences were conquered by the fabulous artistic performances. The climax came when the students from the School of Foreign Languages sang songs in five languages. The closing ceremony was co-hosted by four Chinese and foreign teachers. At 18:50 pm, the closing ceremony of the Foreign Language Festival drew a successful conclusion with the beautiful melody of male solo—“So Sick”, which also signified the closure of the8thForeign Language Festival. The compact organization of the closing ceremony is the representation of the efficiency and practicality of the School of Foreign Languages.

Other honored guests at the closing ceremony include Mr. Cui Yuxiang, the head of the Publicity Department of HUST, Mr. Man Chuntao, the head of the Students Affairs Office, Mr. Wang Junming, the vice dean of the Academic Affairs Office, Mr. Jiang Yufeng, the dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Mr. Wang Yi, the party secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, Ms. Zhen Yanhua, the vice dean of the Foreign Languages School, Ms. Guo Hong, the vice dean of the Foreign Languages School, and Mr. Xu Yingdong, the dean assistant of the Foreign Languages School and the head of the Japanese Department.
