Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Committee published the evaluation results of NSFC in 2011. The projects applied by HUST amount to 198, among which 31 projects are supported by NSFC, receiving a total of 13,260,000 scientific research fund. Supported projects are distributed into the following disciplines: eighteen in Engineering and Material Science, seven in Information Technology, three in Management, two in Mathematical Physics, one in Chemistry.

In 2011, application for NSFC totals 147,703, among which 143,820 projects pass the initial assessment, 31,458 projects are granted, and 108,767 projects are not supported.
