The 2011 symposium of China Electrotechnical Society Cable Professional Committee was held in Fuzhou from Nov. 10th to 11th. This symposium was sponsored by China Electrotechnical Society Cable Professional Committee, with Bo Lu and Northern Europe Chemical Industry as the co-sponsors and the Sun Cable Incorporated Company of Nanping, Fujian as the organizer. 182 representatives from both home and abroad attended the symposium, which made it a grand occasion. As the Vice Chairman of the committee, Vice President Zhao Hong, together with 6 teachers from Harbin University of Science and Technology, was in attendance.
Under the theme of the Technology and Application of High Voltage, Super Voltage DC Cable and Submarine Cable, professors, scholars and engineering technicians from Bo Lu, Northern Europe Chemical Industry and other 20 units home and abroad conducted extensive exchanges on the issues of development trend of submarine cable, structure design, manufacture techniques, equipment, engineering design, and wiring construction and discussed thoroughly the topics of the applied foreground of high voltage DC cable, material performance, and structure design. Submarine cable, laid under through straits and rivers, connects power network between home and abroad and the ones between islands and lands. In China, the demand for submarine cable is growing dramatically because of the exploitation of the sea islands, the construction of offshore tidal flats wind power stations and submarine energy mining. To the current situation of HVDC projects’ fast growth, Prof. Zhao Hong said that HUST would exploit every possible chance to cooperate comprehensively with the related units to meet the national demands.
Prof. Zhao Hong introduced the development and achievement of HUST on high voltage and insulation in the past years and gave a full introduction to the team construction, personnel training, experimental equipment and development capability of the Dielectric Project National Key Laboratory and Dielectric Application MOE Key Laboratory. Prof. Zhao Hong also directed some of the reports and communication and gave a speech on the Study of Submarine Cable Metallic Shield and Armor Layer Loss.
Professional committee made the decision that the 2012 symposium would be held in Lanzhou and the theme would be related to the standardization of clean insulation material and the localization of flame-retardant cable. The latter part would be under the direction of Prof. Zhao Hong for the efforts and the achievement he has made in this field.
