Delegation of Bulgarian Sophia University of Technology Visit HUST

Invited by President Li Dayong, President of Bulgarian Sophia University of Technology Marin Hristov and Dean of Mechanical Technology School Georgi Todorov paid a friendly visit from Nov. 28th to Nov. 30th.

Sophia University of Technology, one of the largest engineering universities in Bulgaria, was founded in 1945, with 17 departments and 20000 students. Since we signed the cooperation agreement in 1999, we have maintained a long-term friendly cooperative relationship. During the 12 years, Sophia University of Technology has assigned 14 delegates to visit our university for 6 times, and we have assigned 18 delegates to visit Sophia University of Technology for 4 times. At the time of both 50th and 60th anniversary of HUST, Sophia University of Technology assigned delegation to take part in our celebration ceremony. Our academic exchange and cooperation on scientific research have enhanced due to two international scientific research cooperative programs supported by Bulgarian government.

On the afternoon of Nov. 28th, President Li Dayong and Vice President Zhao Hong met with the guests. President Li Dayong congratulated Marin Hristov for becoming the new president. Then President Li had a brief introduction to the historical evolvement, discipline development, students training, and international cooperation, as well as reviewed the friendly exchange between the two universities. President of Sophia University of Technology Marin Hristov emphasized the chief objective to promote future development of Sophia University of Technology, that is, to strengthen international cooperation and academic exchange. He illustrated the particular advantage on attracting foreign students after Bulgaria becomes the member of EU. Finally, President Li and Vice President Zhao had a discussion with President Marin on the fields and modes of future cooperation. Both parties agreed that we are important partners for each other. It is the mutual demand and common goal to develop diverse cooperative style in different aspects.

On the afternoon of Nov. 29th, accompanied by the Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, President Marin and Dean Georgi paid an academic visit to School of Measurement-Control Technology and Communications Engineering. The Dean Yu Xiaoyang, Vice Dean Tong Ziquan and teachers from Sensor Network Technology Department and Measurement-Control Technology and Instrumentation Department took part in the seminar.

At the seminar, Dean Yu firstly had an overview of School of Measurement-Control Technology and Communications Engineering and its scientific research. Besides he conveyed the expectation to have an international cooperation on scientific research with Sophia University of Technology. Vice Dean Tong introduced the main research fields. Afterwards, Marin Hristov had an overview of Sophia University of Technology and the policy of international scientific cooperation made by Bulgarian government and EU. Dean Georgi introduced the research fields of Mechanical Technology School. Teachers from School of Measurement-Control Technology and Communications Engineering respectively introduced their research fields and achievements. President Marin showed a profound interest in study on reliability of large-scale wind power generation equipments, Micro-nano sensor and wireless sensor network technology, biological information technology, and industrial safeness appraisal. He expected to have an initial cooperation in these fields.
