At the invitation of our university, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Marlios Ieroniemitis, along with the title of consul of Republic of Cyprus in Hong Kong and Macao Mr. Yang Qi paid a friendly visit to our university on December 8th and 9th.
Cyprus locates in Asia from geographical point, but the nation belongs to the party of Europe. It has been an important traffic artery which links the Middle East, Africa and Europe. It is recognized as the “unsinkable aircraft carrier of Eastern Mediterranean” and it is also the hometown of Eros A Fuluo Teeter in ancient Greek mythology.
Mr. Marlios Ieroniemitis used to serve as the Ambassadors of Cyprus to Iran, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and in 2004, he was appointed as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus in China.
On the morning of December 9th, President Li Dayong and the Vice President Zhao Hong met with the visiting guests. President Li Dayong made a brief introduction of the history, disciplinary construction, personnel training, international cooperation and exchange of our university. Mr. Ambassador Ieromiemitis presented with Cyprus’s national condition and university personnel training and the basic status of market demand for personnel in Cyprus. In a warm and harmonious atmosphere, both the two sides made some recommendations accordingly in the following aspects: Confucius Institute in Cyprus, the exchange of teachers and students between our university and universities in Cyprus, joint training of current shortage of qualified personnel in Cyprus.
Mr. Ambassador Ieroniemitis said he would help to promote the establishment of Confucius Institute immediately after returning to Cyprus and seek to establish an intercollegiate cooperation between two universities of Cyprus and our university, and the exchange of visits of teachers and students.
After the meeting, President Li Dayong presented Mr. Ambassador with the letter of appointment of visiting professor of HUST. Mr. Ambassador gave a presentation entitled “Risk Management under Current Economic Situation” in MBA conference room at the School of Management. Vice President Zhao Hong chaired the meeting. And some teachers and students from the School of Management and School of Foreign Languages attended the meeting and listened to the report.
