HUST Sports Meeting was held at 8 am on 25^thMay in the Southern Campus Stadium. The leaders of the University, Party Secretary Gao Jun, President Li Dayong,Vice Party Secretary Du Guangchun, Lu Yan , Vice President Wu Junfeng ,Wei Xinlao, Meng Shangjiu, Rong Panxiangattended the opening ceremony.

Vice President Meng Shangjiu made a speech at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that in the past year, our university seriously implemented the “sunshine sports” spirit. The match activities and the people involved are on the increase. Our university performed excellently in many events such as aerobics, table tennis, swimming and so on, and was awarded the title of “National Staff Sports Demonstration Unit” by the all-China federation of Trade Unions and state general administration of sports—the only one winning the honor among all the education system. He hoped that all athletes could carry forward the Olympic spirit of “swifter, higher, stronger” in the competition, fully displaying sports athletes high spirits of HUST, and further improving our competitive level.

After a day and a half’s competition, the curtainof 2012 Sports Meetingfell at 4 pm on 25th. The top three were won by Materials Science and Engineering School, Measure and Control Technology and Communication Engineering School andManagementSchool respectively.

The successful hosting of the sports meeting enabled all the teachers and students to participate in “sunshine sports activities”, which will play a positive role in each school and department’s cohesion, physical quality improvement of the teachers and students and further development of the university.
