On March 10th, our alumnus Zhang Hong, Sochi Olympic’s gold medalist in 1,000m speed skating, revisited HUST having a face-to-face talk with the students and staff. The General Secretary Zhao Guogang and President Li Dayong met with Zhang Hong. The leaders in HUST congratulated her on her winning the gold medal, expressed their gratitude for bringing honor to the university and praised highly of her intrepidity and perseverance. Under the inspiration of her spirit, all the staff and students are going to dedicate all of their diligence and intelligence to work and study. Li Dayong, on behalf of HUST, conferred her the certificate of “Honored Alumnus” and award.

At 15:30, Zhang Hong met with the students of HUST. More than 400 students joined the meeting. Zhang Hong graduated from HUST in 2010. She was moved by the hospitality of the teachers and students in HUST. In the interview, she gave an account of her growth and her experience in the Winter Olympics. A young girl of 25, shouldering the expectation of people, she did not surrender to hardship due to her dream and belief. At the end of the interview, she encouraged all the students to cherish youth and pursue their dream.

In the interaction with the students, Zhang Hong’s future plan was asked. Zhang Hong responded that she planned to win more gold medals. She summarized that only those who stuck to one’s dream and kept pursuing it can be successful.

Zhang Hong is the pride of HUST. She motivated all the students to be industrious in their study. Her positive spirit influences all the teachers and students in the quest for their dreams.
