The 9thInternational Forum on Strategic Technology (the 9thIFOST) was held in Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from Oct. 20thto Oct. 24th. 21 teachers, 1 doctoral student and 4 postgraduate students participated the forum, which was supported by the university leaders and was carefully planned by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange. 65 papers were published by the teachers and students who were from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Measurement and Control Technology and Communication Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Applied Science, Software School and School of Construction Engineering. They were praised and respected by the organizer and the experts.
IFOST is an international conference which is co-organized by the science and engineering universities from various countries, such as Ulsan University of Korea, Russia Tuomusike Industrial University, Russia Novosibirsk State Technical University, Harbin University of Science and Technology, Vietnam Hu Zhiming City Polytechnic Unversity, Mongolia Polytechnic University and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology. This forum started in 2006, which is not only the international conference in the academic field, but also the platform for the communication and cooperation between academic field and industry.
This forum has already been held successfully in Korea, Mongolia, Russia, Vietnam and China respectively from 2006 to 2013. In 2011, Harbin University of Science and Technology held the 6thInternational Forum on Strategic Technology successfully, which received praise from the experts both at home and abroad. The aim of this forum is to provide the communication platform for polytechnic universities in the high-level international conference.
The theme of the 9thIFOST is “Advanced Technology: Recent Trends and Their Implications”. The conference requested the papers whose content was related with Information & Communication Technology, Power Engineering & Renewable Energy, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning & Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics & Mining Engineering, Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology, Applied Engineering Sciences. The experts from China, Russia, America, Korea, Mongolia, Japan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and India, divided into 6 groups, communicated the latest research in the form of oral report and post report.
Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, the Minister of Education in the Bangladesh, attended the opening ceremony on the afternoon of Oct.21st. In the opening ceremony, Xi Zhaohui, who is the director of department of International Cooperation and Exchange, gave the speech on behalf of Harbin University of Science and Technology. Our university and signed the cooperation framework agreement with Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology before the end of the opening ceremony.
The 19 professors, one doctoral student and four postgraduates from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Measurement and Control Technology and Communication Engineering, School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Applied School, Software School and School of Construction Engineering, participated the conference and made 11 oral reports and 15 post reports.
Xi Zhaohui, who is the director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange in HUST, introduced the treatment and enrollment mode of overseas students. He also communicated with Professor Jahangir Alam who was the President of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Professor A.N.Pestryakov from Russia Tuomusike Industrial University, Professor Evgeny B. Tsoy, the vice-president from Russia Tuomusike Industrial University, Professor Chi-Mo Park from Ulsan University of Korea, Professor Panut Mulyono from Indonesia Gadjah Mada University, Professor Baatar Ochirbat from Mongolia Polytechnic University.
During the conference, the committee decided to grant Indonesia Gadjah Mada University to hold the 10thInternational Forum on Strategic Technology on June 2ndto June 5thin 2015. All those who attended the conference believe that they broaden the academic vision through the forum, and have a better understanding about the research hotspots and frontier technology. The forum establishes a solid foundation for the further educational and scientific cooperation with the overseas universities.
