On the afternoon of July 8, the 3rdmeeting of teaching affairs of this semester was held in HUST. The meeting was hosted by Director ofAcademic Affairs Office,Liu Shenghui, andVice President Meng Dawei, teaching inspector-general Guo Jianying, directors fromHigherEducationResearchCenterandQualityAssessmentCenterand deans from all colleges in charge of teaching were present at the meeting.
Director Liu Shenghui reported the revision of personnel training program in HUST. He said that after four rounds of revisions on the basis of research, proof, double-check and feedback, this personnel training program was going on smoothly and well. With the distribution of the formats of syllabus and regulations, he specially emphasized the importance of assessment mode by bringing comprehensive assignments, quizzes and so on into the final assessment. Director Liu also assigned specific tasks to the 9 majors applying for the Engineering Education Professional Certification. He also reported the preparations of the course quality criteria. He thought it was an effective way to promote the personnel training by establishing the course quality criteria. He proposed the idea of a new course of innovation and entrepreneurship. He pointed out that failure of entrepreneurship could be the norm and success could be an exception, but entrepreneurship would surely be an experience through which students could acquire learning and find ways to success.
Deputy Director Song Qingkun showed to the attendees the number, the value and the co-use of large instruments and equipments in the university. He proposed that all the large instruments and equipments should be partaken and he put forward the requirements of the experimental teaching and the performance appraisal as well.
Deputy Director Shi Lei explained in detail the newly-issuedRegister Administrative Provisions of Harbin University of Science and Technology,Regulations on Examination Affairs of Harbin University of Science and Technology,Rules for the Implementation of the Undergraduates’ Major Transformations of Harbin University of Science and Technology (Revised), andRegulations for Graduating Students Pursuing a Master’s Degree with Entry Test Exemptions of Harbin University of Science and Technology. Deputy Director Xu Yongming talked on the duplicate checking of graduation project and the “Internet +” contest respectively.
Wu Qiufeng, Head of Higher Education Research Center andQualityAssessmentCenter, reported the feedback collected by the student informants. Based on the feedback, she suggested that supervisors from the university and the school carry out special supervision tasks.
Vice President Meng Dawei pointed that in addition to the routines, we had focused on the personnel training program. Although this program was of urgency and of great pressure, it was done in good order and the initial results were highly thought of. He emphasized:
1. As for the score distributions in the syllabus, the criteria of course assessments should differ. Teachers were responsible for the establishment of criteria of their courses.
2. As for the teaching assessment and Engineering Education Certification, preparations should be made the earlier the better.
3. As for the co-use of large instruments and equipments, full use was required to make to stop the repeated investments.
4. As for the newly-issued provisions, regulations and rules, emphases should be laid on maneuverability.
5. As for the “Internet +” contest, teachers and students should be encouraged and inspired in their innovations and entrepreneurship.
With the final term examination drawing near, Vice President Meng Dawei affirmed anew the importance of University Academic Discipline. He restated that University Academic Discipline, regarded as the root of our university and the permanent priority of our work, should always be kept as the pivot of our university and could never be replaced.
