On July 8, to commemorate the outstanding contributions of Mr. Wang Daheng in optics and education, the Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST), Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) jointly hosted “Light changes the world”—the seminar on Wang Daheng’s educational thought in CIPMP. More than 70 experts and specialists attended the activity, including academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Zhou Bingkun, Wang Liding, Chen Xingdan, Wang Jiaqi, Wang Lijun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhou Liwei, Yao Junen, Xu Zuyan, and Mr. Wang’s daughter Wang Sen, and his son Wang He. Vice General Secretary of HUST Lu Yan, Professor Yin Jinghua of theSchoolofApplied Sciences, Vice Director Huang Jinzhe, the Vice Director of the Propaganda Department Liu Di also attended the activity.
In the morning, participants laid flowers to the bronze statue of Wang Daheng to show their respect and admiration. Subsequently, they visited China Optical Science andTechnologyMuseumwhich was the only national level optical museum inChina. The museum was proposed by four academician, Wang Daheng, Ding Henggao, Zhou Bingkun and Mu Guoguang to Premier Wen Jiabao and was approved by Premier Wen.
The conference was hosted by the General Secretary of CIOMP Ma Mingya. In the conference, the Director of Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences Li Ting, the Vice President of Beijing Association of Sciences and Technology Tian Wen, the Vice President of Jilin Association of Sciences and Technology Han Yuhong, the General Secretary ofChineseAcademyof SciencesChangchunBranch Gan Jianguo and other leaders and experts delivered speeches continuously. The former colleagues of Wang Daheng, his students and friends recall the amazing and remarkable life of Wang Daheng. Lu Yan made a report on “The educational and technological thought of Wang Daheng leads the scientific development of HUST”, expressing the admiration and respect for the faculty and students of HUST.
