At 3:30 p.m. of March 4, 2016, College Forum 460 was held at Lecture Hall 0220 of No. 1 Building. As one of the activities to celebrate International Working Women’s Day as well as the “Girls’ Day” of students, the lecture was given by Professor Guo Li, Vice President of Heilongjiang Women’s Federation, Provincial Institute of Women’s Studies and national senior expert on the woman theory. Over 600 teachers and students of HUST got a deep understanding about the global trend of gender equality and the basic national policies between sexes through the lecture.

Based on the topics of development of the basic national policies in the recent two decades, regulations and anti-discrimination law implemented by China on the equality between men and women and global gender equality development since 2015, Professor Guo Li deeply analyzed the issue of gender equality and she stated the main achievements of China on promoting gender equality through the aspects of establishing and perfecting the national mechanism of promoting gender equality gradually, forming the legal policy system to promote gender equality, “adhering to the basic state policy of gender equality, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of women and children” put forward at the 18th National People’s Congress being the groundbreaking statement to promote gender equality and women empowerment.

Professor Guo Li pointed out that our society now is of the social system of gender equality, while it would be a long process for real cultural identity on gender equality and she encouraged the women attending the lecture to develop their own independent ability and firm confidence.
