HUST Forum of University Students Holds a Series of Lectures

for 2016’s Freshmen

At 14:30 of September 14, a series of lectures, namely, “The First Lectures in Freshmen’s University Life” were held grandly by HUST Forum of University Students for 2016’s freshmen in the gymnasium of West Campus. More than 6,000 HUST’s freshmen, as well as her Vice Party Secretary Lu Yan, all school’s Party secretaries and vice Party secretaries in charge of student work, CYL secretaries and freshman counselors attended the ceremony.

Yu Dan, a BNU professor and doctoral supervisor as well as one of the most well-known celebrities in China’s sinology study, delivered the first lecture entitled “Learning the Ability to Distinguish Right from Wrong is the Doctrine of Greatest Learning”, in which she stressed “Conscience is the best state of knowledge” and the tenet of college education existed in human nature that should be explicated to encourage and illustrate every student to pursue his or her life goal. Professor Yu defined the the first year of college as the most precious time for freshmen because one could have enough time to do anything in this period and she taught the students presented to treasure it by setting a clear goal for themselves individually and never give up pursuing it.

Then Liu Wanhui, the woman writer who wrote “With You”, one the best sellers of Chinese youth novelsin pen name of “August Chang’an”, delivered the second lecture in which she shared some “small but important things” in her life with the audience. After that, Song Jiayu, the executive chairman of the 20th Heiljongjiang Student Association as well as a model of outstanding HUST students, Sun Tao, the winner of “2015-2016 May 4th Youth Medal of China”, and the 2nd HUST Mission (the 17th of China) in fulfilling Graduate Sending Education to Backvelder Project, delivered their lectures or talks in turns on some of their own experiences and inspirations in HUST.

Holding series of “the first lectures in freshmen’s university life” is one of the ten services HUST CYL Committee offering freshmen, and has been carried out by HUST Forum of University Students for three years continuously. Basing on the principle of “every character is learned”, the lectures succeeded in helping freshmen adjust to campus lives, broaden insights, enlightening wisdom,cultivate tastes and as well as setting up new goals from a brand new starting point in life and keeping on with it diligently.

Before the lecture, Vice Party Secretary Lu had a cordial meeting with Professor Yu.
