On April 1, the 9^thChallenge Cup College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and its Exhibition were held at the hall of the New Teaching Building. Vice President Wu Junfeng attended the activity and visited the exhibition. Assistant of President Meng Zhuang declared open the competition and together with the Director of the Office of Academic Affairs Ge Baojun, and Director of the Department of Science and Technology Zhang Xiaohong unveiled the exhibition. As the judges of the competition, Professor Ge Baojun, Professor Zhang Xiaohong, Professor Gao Junshan, Professor Tong Ziquan, Professor Liu Lizhu, Professor Wu Yulin and Professor Zhou Feng reviewed the works for the final competition and the contestants answered the relevant questions and exhibited the works. The Secretary of Youth League Committee of HUST Shan Lina hosted the final competition and the opening ceremony of the exhibition. This competition was mainly organized by the Youth League Committee of HUST, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Department of Science and Technology, and was jointly undertaken by the College student Association of Science and Technology. After the final competition, the works will be exhibited at the hall of No. 1 Building of West Campus, Sunshine Hall of South Campus and East Campus successively.

The 9^thChallenge Cup College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition was initiated by the Youth League Committee of HUST in October 2012. Over 150 pieces of works were collected. The Youth League Committee invited many experts to review the submitted works twice and give some indirection suggestion through preliminary examination and reexamination. Finally, 40 pieces of works out of 150 were selected to enter the final competition and the 1^stPrize, 2^ndPrize, 3^rdPrize, Excellent Award and other awards were determined. The award-winning works were ready to compete in the Heilongjiang Challenge Cup College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition.

What’s more, on April 3, at the Bidding Conference for theHeilongjiang Challenge Cup College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, through the project argumentation, school application, oral defense, as well as the joint evaluation of provincial Youth League Committee, out of 4 institutions of higher learning, HUST was approved to host the competition. The event will further help to create the scientific and technological innovation atmosphere for the students of HUST, and improve the relevant Challenge Cup competitions organizing, undertaking and working ability of the school as well.
