ACM-ICPC, organizedby the Association for Computing Machineryin1970, is now one of themost influentialworld-wide programming contests for college students. A team of three contestants from a university is allowed to attend the contest, the theme of which is to test the students’skills insolvingthe real world problems with computers,and tocultivatetheircomprehensive abilities ofcooperation, creation, innovationand enduranceofchallenges and pressures.
CCPC,organized by the Organizing Committee of Chinese College Students Programming Contest,is an annual competition, theaimof which is to improve and demonstrate the abilitiesof Chinese college studentsininnovationand solution ofpractical problems through the contest, to find excellent computer talents, and to lead and promote the reformand trainingof programming teaching in Chinesecolleges and universities.
The participation ofthe program design competitionis widely regarded as a good way tocultivate students’abilitiesof algorithm design, logical reasoning, mathematical modeling, programming and English reading. Byjoining in this competition, studentscanget good trainingsnot only in algorithm and programming ability, but also in such aspects as active learning, self-management, teamworkand so on. Students,attendingthe competition training,are generallyfavored by theirtutors andcompanies. They havebecomeanewdrivingforce in the field of scientific research and development.SomeHUST contestantsfrom different majorsnowworkand play great rolein such famous ICT enterprises as Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba, Huawei and Sina with high salaries, and others are now studying aspostgraduatesintopuniversitiesand scientific institutes in Chinaas Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University and Chinese Academy of Sciences.
