HUST Professor Ren Shanzhi Won China Highest Foundry Prize

During the period from Nov. 15th to Nov. 18th ,“China Foundry Congress”hosted by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society was grandly held in International Exposition center of Suzhou, China. On Nov. 16th, as the most solemn part, the opening ceremony as well as the awarding ceremony was held as scheduled. A total number of 500 delegates from the enterprises of foundry industry and universities attended this event. Voted and negotiated by the members of foundry branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Professor Ren Shanzhi of HUST was nominated as the “Lifelong Achievement of China Foundry” of the eighth session of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, only 2 enjoy this privilege nationwide.

“Lifelong Achievement of China Foundry” was set up by foundry branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society in order to praise those who make great breakthrough at the frontier of foundry technology and those workers who make great contribution to foundry industry with the aim to promote the development and arouse the concern of the whole industry. It is reported that this award has been achieved so far by 16 people since the first session, most of whom are academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and it is the highest award in foundry industry and this is the first time for HUST to gain this award.

At the awarding ceremony, a video casted in HUST was played, and the former HUST President, vice Chairman of foundry industry of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society Li Dayong addressed the awarding speech. Chairman Lou Yanchun and vice Chairman Zhai Qijie pjresent the award to Professor Ren Shanzhi.

In his awarding speech, Professor Ren expressed his thanks to the peers for their support, to the leaders for their caring and cultivation, to their students for their concern. He said lifelong achievement did not mean termination, and he would still strive to cooperate with the young staff to complete key projects in his 80s and 90s, hoping that he could achieve more despite his age.

PS: Professor Ren Shanzhi, male, born in 1932, graduated from Qinghua University, majoring in foundry industry as a postgraduate, worked as vice president of Harbin University of Technology, vice chairman of standardized technology commission of casting industry, dedicated to teaching and research work of foundry. His research won the second prize of Chinese Academy of Science, second prize of technology progress award of Minister of Mechanical, second prize of technology progress award of Heilongjiang province. He was honored as model worker in Heilongjiang province.
