    On Aug. 27^th and 28^th in 2008, the 8^th International Symposium on Modern Cutting and Measuring Engineering was held in the multiple-function hall on the first floor in No. 1 building in Harbin University of Science and Technology. This symposium was hosted by HUST and Chengdu Tools Research Institute Limited. More than 210 representatives from home and abroad in this field attended the conference. Vice-president Guo Erjun from HUST and Professor Yuan Zhejun and Professor Li Zhenjia were present at the opening ceremony.

   The opening ceremony was hosted by the vice-general manager Wang Hu from Chengdu Tools Research Institute Limited. He expressed thanks for those who attended the symposium and for the organization provided by HUST. Luo Yong, the vice-general manager from National Machinery Precision Engineering Co. Ltd, addressed in the opening ceremony. Guo Erjun, the vice-president of HUST expressed the congratulation for the opening of the symposium, and he also introduced HUST to those who were present. Director Lu Di from German Precision Tool Grinding Professional Association also made a speech.

Afterwards, Liu Xianli, Dean of Mechanical Power Engineering from HUST made a report. He introduced the research characteristics of the cutting team in HUST. Zhang Hailiang from Harbin Measuring and Cutting Tools Group Co. Ltd, and Pastrick Schmid from NUM corporation in Switch land introduced the function of NUMROTO.

    The symposium held in our university has not only provided the communicating platform for the experts and researchers, but also popularized HUST in high end equipment manufacturing industry. This symposium lasted two days on Aug. 27^th and Aug. 28^th. The symposium was also broadcast live.
