The series of lecture for the freshmen were held at the sports complex of Harbin University of Science and Technology at 18:30 on September 12, 2017. Professor Hu Min, President and Tutor of graduates, gave lectures entitled “Power of Dreams” for all 2017 freshmen. As “the Father of Chinese IELTS” and a member of the expert committee of “Belt and Road” initiative coordinated development action center of Chinese university students, Mr. Hu is a famous English educator and teaching management expertise and President of New Channel International Education Group. More than 5,000 people have ever attended this lecture, such as Student Work Department Director Yang Zhongxue, Youth League Secretary Jiang Guoyu, student counselors of 2017 Grade and all the freshmen.

When he was 15 years old, Mr. Hu became a college student with distinction in Xiang Tan University and boarded the university stage in 19. Then he became a master of Shandong Normal University and was named as the youngest associate professor of the Chinese social sciences, and at the age of 28, he became the enterprise tutor Department of the 2014 “Youth National Students Start Tournament” which was held by Central Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Education. As The cover of the magazine of Communist Youth League Central Committee’s Chinese Youths, he found the New Channel in his 40s. He said that there are two things which have been good for his life and he has done consistently for many years: one is exercising every day, and the other is reading in the morning. Mr. Hu said, “The body is the capital of the revolution and a healthy body is the cornerstone of success. Morning reading is a test for a person’s willpower, and reading a book can enrich oneself in a quiet morning. I enjoy it very much. He quoted an English proverb for the students, “Be sound in body and mind.” He hoped the students’ physical body and soul could be sound and pure. “When you enter college, you should learn to create unlimited possibilities with limited time.” After that, Mr. Hu talked about his college experience and thought that the perfect grasp of time is a necessary condition for success. He said he could be promoted to be the youngest associate professor in Chinese social sciences at the time one of the most important reason is to seize the time, cherish the time and keep moving .

Speaking of “dream”, Mr. Hu told his classmates that “When setting up their dreams, the outstanding graduate students should have the characteristics of “3+2”. “3” means leadership, communication and social work ability while “2” means Integrity and specification. When facing the world's numerous choices, it is more important to focus on one point. And mentioned how to be a man that he said: “We should be integrity and honesty, dedicated and specialized, so that we could improve ourselves and let our dream go on.” In the lecture, Mr. Hu explained the three abilities that contemporary college students should have. First, ability is communication and expression. Through extensive reading books continuously people can improve themselves and people should pay attention to the importance of communication between people. In contemporary society, communication is an important channel for people to establish trust relationship so that people could solve the problem and complete the task. Second, ability is leadership, people should seize every opportunity to exercise their leadership and coordination. Third is the social work ability, that is, professional ability. As an MBA tutor of Communist Youth League Central Entrepreneurship Competition, Mr. Hu shared the experience and attention for students. He advises everyone that entrepreneurship should make full use of human resources and understand the characteristics of each person. With his own struggle entrepreneurial experience, he told us that college should firmly grasp our dreams and gave the freshmen suggestions and indicated the direction. Using a story about 23-year-old business executives, he told students that the people must have a chance to succeed as long as he keeps giving. Finally, Mr.Hu told students: In the great era of great rejuvenation, you cannot forget that you are a Chinese. And any time do not forget, there is a success called persistence and strive to achieve your dreams. I wish you and I have no regrets about my past experience and fearlessness of the future.
Everything that is learned is character. The first lecture for freshmen is one of activities which is held by the communist youth league to welcome freshmen in our school for four years. It aims to help freshmen adapt to college life as soon as possible, and think seriously about their life coordinates and future development, and stimulate a new enthusiasm for learning, then grow up in diligence and learning.
