For so long we had been waiting before the harvesting autumn of 2017 finally resumed its course to HUST, together with the 33rdChinese Teachers’ Day. On this special occasion, we, the members of HUST Students’ Union, have the honour to extend herewith the highest respect to all of you, our dearest HUST teachers and retired teachers, on behalf of more than 28,000 HUST students, or the so-called “flowers” and “fruits” under your cultivation, for your hard work and contribution you have made to our Alma Mater, as well as our best wishes for you to have a happy Teachers’ Day!

Just as Master Han Yu of the Tang Dynasty said in his famous prose “On Teaching”, or “Shi Shuo”, since ancient times those who wanted to learn would seek out a teacher, one who could propagate the doctrine, impart professional knowledge, and resolve doubts. We are among those who wanted to and have to learn, and we are lucky to have you as our teachers to propagate the doctrine, impart professional knowledge, and resolve doubts to all of us, day to day, week to week, month to month, and year to year!

No, we forget season! You do your glorious work season to season as well! Yes, you are the most beautiful scenery line for every season of HUST! In spring, you're like life-giving spring breeze that moistens things silently and blows positive energy into our deepest heart; in summer, you write down a shining phrase of “people’s teacher” with your fire-like fervor and unswerving faith; in autumn, you manifest solid foundation of knowledge to enlighten us and make us think; in winter, your enthusiasm and benevolence make us forget the chill outside. You are seeds breeding truth, messengers conveying kindness and banners showing beauty! Between reincarnation of seasons, we grew up, while you are growing older...

Oh, my dearest teachers, here and now, please allow us to compose an untitled poem in your honour, and as our mutual encouragement in working on pursuing HUST’s glory and China’s prosperity.

An Untitled Poem

Fair is the white star of twilight,

And the sky clearer,

At the day’s end;

But HUST is fairer,

And HUST is dearer,

HUST, my Alma Mater!

Fair is the white star of twilight,

And the moon roving,

At the sky’s end;

But you are fairer,

Better worth respecting,

You, my dearest teacher!
