September 19 witnessed the 67thbirthday of HUST. At three p.m., the 7thBeijing Alumni Association “Ruyuanyingcai” Scholarship Award Ceremony was held in Lecture Hall on the 5thfloor of the Main Teaching Building, West Campus. Present at the ceremony were Zhao Guogang, secretary of CPC HUST and chairman of HUST Education Development Foundation, Li Dayong, president of HUST and chairman of Alumni Association, Wang Zhihao, secretary of CPC HUST Standing Committee, Commission for Discipline Inspection, and excellent alumni including Lu Zhong, Lv Xilin, Ma Shaokui, Yu Kunling, Xiu Wei, Wang Qingsong, Xu Meng, Li Gexi, Zhang Haiqing, and Zhang Dongxu. Also present at the meeting were Yang Zhongxue, director of Student Affairs Department, Wang Qi, director of Enrollment & Allocation Department, secretary-general of alumni association, and secretary of Education Development Foundation, Jiang Guoyu, secretary of HUST CYL Committee, Liu Jun, advisor of alumni association, director of Education Development Foundation, Dong Chuanyou, director of alumni department, vice secretary of alumni association, vice secretary-general of Education Development Foundation, eight award-winners and eight students who were invited to go to Beijing next year to study, staff, together with over 500 undergraduates , all of whom attended the ceremony.
After reviewing the video on the work of Beijing Alumni Association, teachers and students gained deeper understanding of the history of HUST and the function of Beijing Association Alumni in holding alumni together. Beijing Alumni Association has always been upholding the principle that they will do their bits to share resources with the university to help promote its development. It has become the home for HUST graduates, and also a platform for students to do internship, and to start their own businesses. This is the seven consecutive year that the Association has hosted the scholarship ceremony at HUST in September, just before or after the birthday of the university, which shows the deep bonds between the association and the university. This scholarship is set up as a long-term scholarship, which is awarded to students once a year. The amount of money given to the award-winners is 20,000yuanper person, the highest amount among the different kinds of scholarships given by the university.
Chairman Lu delivered a speech on behalf of Beijing Alumni Association, sharing his own advice to HUST undergraduates and urged them to firmly pursue their dreams, to embrace difficulties, to shoulder responsibilities, to keep a happy mindset, to know themselves and the world, and to keep a sense of achievements. He also conveyed the warmest greeting to his Alter Mater and all teachers for this special day, as well as the promises to support HUST to cultivate more outstanding talents.
Then the basic information of the 8 winners of this year’s scholarship was introduced through slides, each of whom will be appointed with an outstanding alumnus as the career planning tutor. The selected alumnus will help them broaden their horizons and acquire more professional skills. Presents as well as blessings were given to award-winners. University leaders and representatives of the Association presented awards to the award-winners. Meanwhile, invitation to study in Beijing was also sent.
Zhang Dongxu, winner of the 1st “Ruyuanyingcai”Scholarship, talked about his own study experience in HUST and work experience. He extended his gratitude to HUST for the cultivation and to his teachers for their dedication.
Vice chairman Lüshared his thoughts with the audience and urged students to make career plans, to cultivate the habit of doing exercise and lifelong reading, to develop systematic methods to analyze and solve problems, and to develop a serious relationship.
Award-winners and students recited a poem entitledThe Youth of HUST，expressing their gratitude to Beijing Alumni Association and to the university, and the responsibilities they should shoulder as a student of HUST.
Secretary Wang delivered a speech at the ceremony. On behalf of the university, he expressed his warm welcome to the Beijing alumni to gather together in their Alma Mater, and his sincere thanks to their contribution. He noted that this year witnessed the seventh consecutive year of the “Ruyuanyingcai”scholarship ceremony, which has become one of the most exciting event in this year of time. The amount of scholarship has been totaled over 1 million so far, and the scholarship winners have become the role models for thousands of students. He urged students to cherish this precious honor and make greater progress to live up to the expectations of the alumni. It was also his hope that students should follow the examples of the excellent alumni and together add up to the glory of HUST. He ended his speech with his wish to alumni to have frequent visits to their Alma Mater and to every HUST student!
