Vice Chairman of CMIF Song Tianhu Delivers a Keynote Lecture

At 10 a.m., August 11, a keynote lecture entitled Made in China 2025: On Strategies of Transforming China into a Leading Manufacturing Powerwas delivered by Song Tianhu, Vice Chairman of China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF), at the invitation of HUST. The lecture took place at No. 2 Meeting Room of 17thfloor of the Main Teaching Building. Present at the meeting were Liu Shenghui, vice president of HUST, Wu Mingyang, director of science and technology department, Zhang Ying, vice director of the department, Deng Caixia, CPC HUST secretary of school of mechanical and power engineering, Yang Fang, CPC HUST vice secretary of the school, Jiang Bin, Wang Yiwen, Zhang Yuan, vice deans of the school, and also teachers and post-graduate students. The lecture was hosted by Liu Xianli, dean of the school of mechanical and power engineering.

Liu Xianli extended warm welcome and thanks to Song Tianhu, who had taken time from his busy schedule to come here and who had given enormous support to the development of the school over the years. The lecture focused on four topics, including the current situation facing machinery manufacturing, implications and effects of digital manufacturing, components and objectives of networked manufacturing, as well as features and requirements of intelligent manufacturing. With his vivid language and illuminating insights, Vice Chairman Song pointed about the problems confronted by manufacturing industry in China. He stated that there were similarities among the concepts of Made in China 2025, Strategic Initiative Industrie 4.0, and Industrial Internet in America. However, the upgrading of Chinese manufacturing faced new challenges, such as the improvement of product quality, automatic control, soft hardware, industrial cloud, and industrial Internet. Vice Chairman Song also answered questions about key problems and gave valuable suggestions on how to choose a research field and how to start the research work. The lecture ended with his encouragement to young teachers to break new grounds and work hard to press ahead, accelerating the manufacturing industry to be more digital, networked and smart.

Director Wu looked back on the contact between the school and Vice Chairman Song, and extended his gratitude to Vice Chairman Song for his support to the university during his appointment as director of scientific and technological quality department, Ministry of Machine Building, and for his instruction to teachers during their application for major scientific and technological programs. They also exchanged ideas on how to choose research fields, the future of 3D printing, etc.

The lecture was followed by a meeting between President Li Dayong and Vice Chairman Song Tianhu.
