HUST Gets a Complete Success in the 8thLanqiao Cup Software and Information Technology Contest

On May 28, 2017, the awarding ceremony of the 8^thLanqiao Cup NationalSoftware and Information Technology Contest of professional talents was held at Peking University.HUST contestants got a great success by defeating more than 4,000 talents from about 1,200 colleges and universities nationwide, and won the national 2nd prize (group A - undergraduate group of the key universities). At the same time, HUST also won the annual Academy Special Achievement Medal in the contest (10 nationwide universities were awarded the prize).

Thirty-one HUST students who had got the first prize in the provincial competition attended this national finals held in Beijing. They competed against over 4,000 contestants from about 800 colleges and universities nationwide. 26 of the HUST contestants who attended the software competition were tutored by Professor Yu Bo and Professor Zhao Zhili, and 5 contestants who participated in the electronic competition were tutored by Professor Chen Cai.28 of the HUST contestants have got prizes due to their solid professional basic skills, practical abilities, good psychological qualities and excellent performance.Among the awards, A Group of software got the following awards: 1 second prize, 14 third prizes; contestants from electronics got the award of 5 third prizes; B Group of software got the awards as 2 second prizes and 6 third prizes. Thanks to the outstanding achievements, HUST was awarded the honor of Software Competition Winning University (only 41 universities nationwide were awarded this honor). Meanwhile, HUST was also awarded the honor of Excellent Organizational Unit of Software Competition for the third consecutive year. Contestant Zhou Jinlin from Class 6 of 2015 of Software Engineering major tutored by Yu Bo won the second prize in A Group of C\C++ Program Design of the National Finals. This is so far the best award that HUST has ever got in the group contest.

Lanqiao CupSoftware and Information Technology Contest, promoted and organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Talent Exchange Center 8 years ago, has grown into one of China’s largest and most influential professional events, with a total number of 200 thousand students attending the contest. A large number of professionals has grown out of this contest and entered IT enterprises. It is reported that in contrast to the previous sessions, there has been a breakthrough in the number of entries, regions and qualities of the competition, and there has been significantly a rising number of key universities attending this contest. Over 40,000 contestants from more than 1,200 colleges and universities like Peking University, Tsinghua University and so on competed in the contest. The purpose of the contest was to promote the teaching innovation and the reform of teaching in computer science, software and electronics, so as to improve the students’ sense of self-innovation, the ability of practice in engineering and E&I Initiative.

The campus trials of the contest were sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and undertaken by Software Academy in Harbin University of Science and Technology. The whole process lasted more than 7 months, and during the time, HUST also hosted the Provincial Tournament Match (three years in a row).Our students have achieved success in the undergraduate competition in the key universities of the national finals. All of these are the evidence not only to prove the quality of engineering personnel training in our university but also the fruits of the school leaders and professional teachers devoted to education and teaching.

In the future, with the help of Lanqiao Cup Software and Information Technology Contest as a platform of the technology competition, the leaders and teachers in HUST will with joint efforts seize the new technology opportunities of educational development strategy and innovative the collaborative engineering education methods. It is certain that HUST will cultivate more innovative great talents in engineering science.
