HUST Robot Team Achieves Success at the “EFORT-HIT Cup” National Robot Patent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest

On December 15, the “EFORT-HIT Cup” National Robot Patent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest Final was held in the city of Wuhu, Anhui province. The contest was guided by the State Intellectual Property Office, hosted by Anhui Provincial Intellectual Property Bureau, and the Wuhu Municipal People’s government, organized by Wuhu Municipal Intellectual Property Bureau, Jiujiang District People’s government, the Wuhu Association of Science and Technology and Wuhu Municipal Finance Office. There was one grand prize (bonus: 100,000 yuan), 3 first prize (bonus: 50,000 yuan), 10 second prize (bonus: 10,000 yuan), and 20 third-prize (bonus: 5,000 yuan).

 

The contest was participated in by more than 600 teachers, students and technical personnel from Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beihang University, Tianjin University as well as hundreds of domestic famous universities and high-tech enterprises, involving more than 600 pieces of patents. The contest was divided into preliminaries, semi-final and final in three stages. Initially there was a selection of 100 projects by experts to enter the semi-final, from which the selected 34 outstanding works entered the final stage. In the final contest judges included Zhang Jianwei, Academician of German Hamburg Science Institute, Professor Li Ruifeng, Deputy Director of Robot Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology and more than 30 experts and scholars, as well as 300 local business representatives, representatives of university research institutes.

 

Three teams from School of Mechanical and Power Engineering Institute were selected to participate in the contest, and two projects “Prostate interventional robot system” and “Personalized orthodontic arch wire bending robot system” went into the final. From December 13 to 16, Associate Professor Jiang Jingang, Associate Professor Zhao Yanjiang led the teams to participate in the final contest, winning two national third prizes. The project “Personalized orthodontic arch wire bending robot system” was signed with Gaoxin District of Wuhu, an achievement converted intentionally.

 

The theme of the contest this year was “Innovation and entrepreneurship make the future”, aiming to respond to national development strategy of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, and to encourage talents to create excellent research teams, to provide a broader platform for technical projects, and to promote transformation of outstanding achievements and development of industrialization.
