On December 3, Room 534 of No.1 Building on South Campus was filled with applause, cheering and laughter. The 5thContest of International Students Speaking Chinese was undergoing. Seventeen students from Korea, Japan, Russia and other countries presented audience a wonderful speech contest with the perfect combination of individual sentiment and Chinese culture’s charm. The dean and vice dean of this college attended this activity and served as judges with teachers from the Department of Chinese Teaching to Foreigners.
The contestants were divided by three levels: preliminary, intermediate and advanced. The judges gave their rankings according to speech content, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, stage performance, and so on. This contest covered a large variety of styles and forms, showing the study and life of international students’ life in our university and the customs of their motherlands. At the preliminary level, Kim’sThe Three Ways of Lovemoved the whole audience and gained the first place of this level. Lan and Yun achieved the first place in intermediate and advanced levels respectively.
During the contest, the contestants showed their linguistic level and their true sentiment. Their performance won the recognition of audience and judges. After two hours’ fierce competition, three First Awards, three Second Awards and several Excellence Awards came out.
Besides contest, international students also demonstrated their unique skills and aptitudes. There was a romantic and funny comicLiang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtaiand dynamic modern songs. Audiences really had a wonderful time.
This contest had provided a platform for foreign students to practice their linguistic knowledge and stimulate their interest to use Chinese expressions. It was not only an examination of Chinese teaching level for foreign students in our university but also a reflection of teaching fruit.
The annual speech contest of international students in International Culture and Education School is a significant item of the teaching schedule in theDepartment of Chinese Teaching to Foreigners,promoting the interaction between teachers and students and leaving on them a deep impression.
