On May 4, the result of the 15th appraisal and election of provincial awards of “May 4th Youth Medal of Heilongjiang” and “Pace-setters in the new Long March of Heilongjiang”, etc. were announced. Wang Monan, HUST professor as well as the dean of Mechatronic Engineering Department, School of Mechanical & Power Engineering, and the director of the Robotics Institute, was awarded “May 4th Youth Medal of Heilongjiang”; Liu Zhuofu, HUST professor of School of Measurement–Control Technology and Communications Engineering was awarded “Pace-setters in the new Long March of Heilongjiang”, and HUST’s CYL (Communist Youth League) branch of School of Computer Science was awarded as “May 4th Red Flag CYL Committee of Heilongjiang”.
This is the 15th annual appraisal and election organized by the Heilongjiang CYL Committee and Heilongjiang Youth Federation to honor those most outstanding youths who have made typical contributions to the economic, social and cultural development of our province. All candidates for the two awards should be under 45 years old. There are altogether 25 “May 4th Youth Medal” winners and 110 “Pace-setters in the new Long March” winners awarded this time, who are working in the fields of industry, agriculture, medical or education, etc, which shows wide representativeness and the honorable spirit of Heilongjiang contemporary youth.
Both Prof Wang and Liu are among the most famous teachers and scholars in HUST and have made great achievement in teaching and science research.,while the CYL (Communist Youth League) branch of HUST’s School of Computer Science, whose 1,396 members account to 93.7% of the whole undergraduates in the school, is well-known for the brand of “IT Charm” it created in HUST, and was granted 9 awards, including one of provincial level.
