On July 5, 2016’s Sino-Russian University Presidential Forum, a supporting activity to the 17th session of Cultural Cooperation Committee meeting for the governments of the two countries, was held in Moscow, hosted by MOEs of both PRC and Russian Federation and jointly undertaken by CEAIE, Peking University, BIT, Russian Association of University Presidents and M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The theme of Forum was “the cooperation strategy of education between PRC and Russia”. Liu Yandong, China’s Vice Premier of State Council, attended the Forum and delivered a keynote speech. So did Gorodets, the deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation.

At the invitation of CEAIE, HUST President Li Dayong attended the Forum, accompanied by Director Xi Zhaohui from HUST’s Department of International Cooperation & Communication, together with more than 600 representatives from over 200 universities, colleges or institutes of China and Russia.

On the forum, after heatedly discussing on issues of higher educational cooperation between China and Russia in projects of “the Belt and Road Initiatives”and “Eurasian Economic Union”,as well as bilateral socio-cultural cooperation, e.g., youth exchanges,cultural festivals, megagames and sports competitions, etc., 15 cooperation agreements, including “The Joint Declaration on Establishing Sino-russian Universities Alliance”, were signed.

During the session, President Li and Director Xi participated in the group discussion, and communicated profoundly with representatives from BMSTU, one of HUST’s sister universities in Russia, as well as Novosibirsk State Technical University, on launching inter-university pragmatic cooperation in the fields of education and scientific study. They also visited National University of Science and Technology “MISIS”, another HUST’s sister university in Russia, and reached consensus on the good prospects for bilateral cooperation.

During the stay in Moscow, President Li and Director Xi called on the HUST visiting scholar in BMSTU, i.e., Professor Wu Xiaoguang from School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, too.
