HUST Candidates Make Great Achievements in the Final English Speech Contest of 21st Century Cup in Heilongjiang and Jilin Zone

The 18thFinal English Speech Contest of 21stCentury Cup in Heilongjiang and Jilin Zone was held on Dec. 8th, 2012 in the international conference center in the wild animal resource college in Northeast Forestry University. The candidates from Harbin University of Science and Technology, Long Jiang, a graduate student from Electrical Engineering College and Zhang Yang, an English major from the School of Foreign Languages, made great achievements, winning the first and third awards respectively. This contest is guided by the teachers Yang Xin and Guan Ning from the School of Foreign Languages, and is highly supported by the dean office and the leaders of the School of Foreign Languages.

Before the contest, our university spent nearly three months to choose the candidates and train these candidates. Supported by the leaders of Foreign Language College and sponsored by the Web English Club, the list of contest candidates is confirmed from more than 40 students after the network selection, recommendation in university and selection in university.

The 21st Century Cup English Speech Contest is founded by China Daily, and undertook by the 21stCentury newspaper, facing all the college students. There are 21 competitors from Heilongjiang Province and Jilin Province joining the contest, whose theme is social networking. After the contest, both candidates and teachers in our university feel the importance of improving students’ language practical ability, accumulating related information and strengthening students’ logical thinking.
