HUST Students Get Good Results in 2012 Mathematical Contest in Modeling

2012 Mathematical Contest in Modeling held successfully from September 7 to 10. In this contest, our students got eight national second prices, twelve provincial first prices, three provincial second prices and four provincial third prices.There are totally 44 teams from our university attending this contest. The 132 students engaging in this competition are sophomores, juniors and seniors from 30 different majors. The total winning ratio is up to 61.4%. With the support from the Office of Academic Affairs, the active organization from Applied Mathematics Department of Applied Science School and students enthusiastic participation, this contest gets tremendous improvements in the number of students and major coverage. It is worth mentioning that 10 teams from our university are submitted to the national awarding committee, which reaches the limit stipulated by the organization.

In this contest, we created a new record in the number and level of the award. The outstanding results show our excellent teaching level and creative & practical abilities in Mathematical Modeling, strengthening our influence in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The good results are the best rewards for the teachers and students involved. During this competition, the leaders of different sections attach great importance, which set solid foundation for the contest. And the departments including Experiment Management, Library, Network Information Center, Dormitory Affairs and Dinning Room provide various support.

We hold annual Campus Mathematical Contest in Modeling in recent years, and send students to attend the competition at home and abroad. Furthermore, we organize the training lectures and innovative test researches. In the development of these activities, we make the knowledge of Mathematical Modeling gained popularity, increase the influence, inspire students’ passion and promote students’ creative abilities. We hope students can make full use of this platform, participating actively and getting new improvement.
