Academician Lei Qingquan Gave Academic Lectures to Teachers and Students of HUST

Prof. LeiQingquan, academician of Chinese academy of engineering, scientist of engineering dielectric field and professor of high voltage and insulation technology of our university, gave an academic lecture for teachers and students of our university in classroom H513, the new main buildingat 9:30am on July 16th. The lecture was presided over byZhangJun, secretary of the party committee of theSchool ofElectrical andElectronicEngineering. More than 100 people, including professors of high voltage and insulation technology, young teachers and doctoral and postgraduate students, listened to the lecture.

In the lecture, academicianLei first introduced the basic knowledge of nanocomposite dielectric interface, reviewed the classical formula of electrical displacement vector continuity at the interface of composite dielectric and its physical connotation, and introduced the basic characteristics of polarization and conductance in a simple way. Lei stressed that the seemingly simple formula is of great significance in designing and optimizing dielectric properties, inhibiting partial discharge of gas, and improving electric field distribution in cable accessories.Healso introduced the equivalence of heat induced current and time-frequency domain, the steady-state electric field and charge distribution of interface polarization, and the breakdown characteristics of insulating dielectric, etc.The effects of polarization temperature and electric field intensity on dielectric polarization behavior are explained clearly.Lei stressed that scientific research should be based on correct scientific ideas and methods, and be good at using a critical and relational perspective to view experimental results. Taking the research on the application of pulse power capacitor as an example,heemphasized that the basic scientific research should be based on the actual engineering needs, accurately extract scientific problems, correctly and reasonably design experiments, fully understand the experimental results, and dig out the physical essence from the experimental phenomena, so as to produce more important innovative results. Lei pointed out that scientific research should pay attention to the rigor and scientific value of academic views and require researchers to have a good knowledge reserve.It is hoped that teachers and students can learn knowledge from the classic textbooks, lay a solid foundation, ask with great concentration, conduct scientific research with great efforts, and scatter seeds and achievements on the land of the motherland.

In his educational career, academician Lei has been working at the forefront of teaching and research. He has been diligent, working hard silently, and taking inheriting knowledge and supporting young people as his unswerving pursuit. Although Lei is over 80 years old, he is vigorous and energetic. In the two-hour lecture, he mastered the knowledge of electrical engineering and its interdisciplinary subjects, fully demonstrating the profound academic foundation and rigorous and realistic scientific attitude of the old scientist. After listening to the report of academician Lei, the teachers and students were greatly encouraged and moved by the noble personality and profound knowledge. They expressed that they would take Lei as an example and devote themselves to study and work with more enthusiasm, and make positive contributions to the “double first-class” construction and high-quality development of HUST.

ProfessorLeiQingquan, male, born in 1938, academician of Chinese academy of engineering; graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1962 and studied at HannoverUniversity in west Germany from 1981 to 1983;visiting researcher(1993.10-1993.11), university of Japan, IEEE senior member, President of ICPADM 2009 international academic conference;currently servingas the chairman of the academic committee of “state key laboratory of electrical insulation for power equipment” (Xi’an Jiaotong University);chairman of academic committee of state key laboratory of electronic thin film and integrated devices (University of Electronic Science and Technology);adjunct professor ofTsinghuaUniversity, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University,DalianUniversity ofTechnology, and chair professor ofWuhanUniversity;honorary director of China Electrotechnical Society Engineering Dielectric Professional Committee, member of the Physical Physics Committee of the Chinese Physical Society;member of the Review Group of the 9th and 10th National Natural Science Foundation of Materials and Engineering, presided over one national 973Project, two national key natural science projects and two general projects of the national natural science foundation of China;won 1 second prize of national technological invention, 1 first prize and 1 second prize of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress. In 2009, he presided over theXiangshanScienceConference – “nano dielectric multilayer structure and macro performance”, put forward to strengthen the mesoscopic or nanometer scale structure and the relationship between microstructure and macroscopic properties research, explore the micro-mesoscopic mutual relations between and among macro performance and theoretical model of interdisciplinary, forward-looking and challenging important scientific problems,andpromote the further development in the field of nano dielectric.
