The 2018 China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was held at Rongcheng Campus from September 13th to 16th. A total of 27 teams from Rongcheng Campus participated in the contest. In this contest, Rongcheng Campus won 10 first prizes, 1 second prize and 3 third prizes at Heilongjiang provincial level contest.
Rongcheng Campus has always attached great importance to the cultivation of students' practical ability. Therefore, the contest has received great attention and support from the leaders of the Rongcheng Campus and the Academic Affairs Division. The Basic Education Department and the Mathematical Modeling Association conducted full publicity and mobilization before the contest. This year, Rongcheng Campus registered 120 students, and after the strict pre-match selection and the concentrated training during summer vacation, 27 teams (81 people) were selected to participate in the contest. The participants range from freshman, sophomore and senior students of the 14 majors. Students benefit a lot with a wide range of professional coverage.
The China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was founded in 1992 and is held once a year. It has become the largest basic academic contest in colleges and universities nationwide, and it is also the largest mathematical modeling contest in the world. Under the organization of Guo Guanghan, the vice director of the Basic Education Department, students of Rongcheng Campus have successfully participated in China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling since 2013. The team of Rongcheng Campus has made great achievements under the guidance of the instructors and the solidarity and hard work of the contestants.
During the summer vacation, under the organization of Guo Guanghan, the contest instructors led all the participants conduct a 22-day intensive training, including the use of matlab, the writing of the thesis, and the establishment of the model. A pre-game simulation was conducted in the last few days of the training, and the defense was conducted under the guidance of the instructors. During the defense, the instructors pointed out all the deficiencies in the paper patiently. During the training, the instructor has strict requirements on every aspect of the contest training, and checks at all levels, which improved the comprehensive strength of the mathematical modeling, enhanced the self-confidence and the cohesiveness of the participating team members.
During the contest, the team instructors gave careful guide and strict requirements on every aspect of the contest by following the principle of “guiding collectively and checking individually”. The team members worked together and worked day and night. After three days and nights of fierce competition, the contest was successfully completed. The leaders and Academic Affairs Division of Rongcheng Campus attaches great importance to students’ contest, actively promotes and strongly supports the Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and provides a good platform for teachers and students to participate in the contest!
“One time in modeling, lifelong benefits”, wish the students of Rongcheng Campus would make persistent efforts to achieve further success in future contests!
