Professor Wang Zidong from London Brunel University Visited HUST

On August 24, HUST President Li Dayong and Vice President Fang Wenbin, had a cordial meeting with the visiting Professor Wang Zidong from Brunel University, London, accompanied by Zhang Fenbin, Director of Postgraduate Department, Sun Mingzhe, Director of Development Planning Department, Duan Hongwei, Vice Dean of Science & Engineering Academy, Ji Donghai, Dean of School of Science, Chen Dongyan, Vice Dean of School of Science, Zhao Yanfeng, Deputy Director of Development Planning Division, Han Yubo, Vice Dean of Science & Engineering Academy, Zhao Liang, Director of Maths Department and Hu Jun, Deputy Director of Maths Department.

President Li extended his warm welcome to Prof. Wang’s visit and thanked his support to HUST in Maths, esp, to the cultivation of Hu Jun. He spoke highly of the progresses and achievements Hu had made during the past five years when he worked in HUST. Vice President Fang also thanked Prof. Wang’s contribution to mathematics courses of HUST and the efforts Hu had made in his team construction and postgraduate cultivation.

When President Li offered his sincere invitation to Prof. Wang to take up the position of chief scientist of HUST Collaborative Innovation Research Center for Complex System Analysis & Control, HUST Director of Academic Committee, part-time Ph.D. tutor of Maths, one of HUST’s first-class doctoral disciplines, so as to help more in HUST’s career of constructing “Double First-Class ” (first-class university and first-class discipline of the world) and “Talent D.C.”, Prof. Wang accepted it happily.


Then, President Li granted the commission to Prof. Wang.

As the life-time professor of Brunel University, London, Prof. Wang is also an IEEE Fellow, professor of “Recruitment Program of Global Experts Project” (or 1000 elites program) by SUST, and was selected as “global highly cited scientist” for several years in succession. In 1996, he was awarded Humboldt Foundation. In 1998, he was awarded JSPS Fund. In 2002, he was awarded HKU William Fund. In his major study fields, i.e., stochastic system control, machine learning, picture processing and application of differential equations, etc., he publicized more than 400 papers by SCI indexing, including 82 ESI highly-cited papers, with over 32,700 academic references, as well as 8 treatises. Now, he was Chief Editor of Neurocomputing (international SCI journal), Executive Chief Editor of International Journal of Systems ScienceSubeditor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems Circuits, Systems & Signal Processing, editorial board member of Information FusionIET Control Theory & ApplicationsNeural NetworksInternational Journal of General Systems and a member of IEEE CSS Editorial Committee, as well as the overseas reviewer of PRC’s national outstanding youth fund and Changjiang scholars.

Thanks to Prof. Wang’s aids, a large group of young scholars flourished in China, including Hu Jun’s team of HUST. He has been to HUST to give lectures for more than ten times, invited by Vice Dean Chen Dongyan and Vice Director Hu in the past 6 years, while on the afternoon of August 23rd, he made his new lecture entitled “Multiobjective Covariance Control” in Room E1113 of HUST New Teaching Building, West Campus.
