Recently, five disciplines of HUST, which are electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science and technology, business administration, and management science and engineering respectively, have been accepted onto the list of Heilongjiang High-Level Universities and Discipline Construction Universities with Preponderant Characteristics. This is another great success and outstanding achievement for our university.
An introduction to the listed disciplines
Electrical Engineering, a then-badly-needed discipline, was established in 1950 by former Ministry of Machine-building Industry to meet the demand of scientific research, technical transfer, and expert accumulation in electrical equipment manufacturing, electromagnetic measurements, and industrial process control. Since its foundation, a large number of outstanding talents have graduated from the discipline, which was regarded as the best in the field of domestic wire and cable industry
Authorized to award master degree in 1981 and doctor degree in 1998, this discipline established its postdoctoral research station in 2000 and was entitled as the doctoral degree conferring spot of first -level disciplines in 2003. As a result, Electrical Engineering was awarded as one of the key disciplines of Heilongjiang Province, High Voltage and Insulation Technology as one of the national key disciplines in 2007, and Electrical Machinery and Apparatus as specialty discipline for national defense in 2016.
This discipline has an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, a professor for New Century Talents Project, 7 Longjiang Scholar Professors, a Nation-level Outstanding Teacher, 9 teachers supported by special subsidy from national government, 3 new century excellent talents granted by Ministry of Education, 4 winners of provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, 5 new century excellent talents of provincial level, and 3 remarkable teachers of provincial level; there are 5 leading talent teams of provincial level, 3 college technical innovation teams of provincial level, and 2 teaching teams of provincial level.
In 2012 nationwide assessment for electrical engineering discipline, it ranked 20thin the 122 universities with master degree administration (16.39%), and High Voltage and Insulation Technology ranked 8th. In 2014, it ranked 10thby China Science and Education Evaluation Network and China Education Quality Evaluation Center (2.55%).
Mechanical engineering, founded in 1950 with 4 second-level disciplines, was awarded as key discipline by former Ministry of Machinery in 1995, and as the first batch of key discipline of provincial level in 2000. Postdoctoral research station for “mechanical engineering” was established in 2009. Authority for first-level doctoral degree of “mechanical engineering” was granted in 2011. It was evaluated as “excellence” in key discipline assessment of Heilongjiang Province.
It has undertaken a lot of national chief projects, which help satisfy national demand for equipment manufacturing, by developing blades with over 500 specifications, and 60 kinds of cutting tool. Key technical problems in industries like station equipment, aerospace, material, machine tool, automobile, and bearing have been solved, gaining dozens of prizes including National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, National Prize for Invention, and awards for science and technology of provincial or ministerial level.
It ranked 38thin the 189 universities with master degree administration in national assessment for mechanical engineering in 2017.
Computer Science and Technology,founded in 1970s, was authorized to grant the master degree in 1990, the doctor degree of computer application technology in 2005, and the first-level doctoral degree of computer science and technology in 2011. Approved in 2014, its Postdoctoral Research Station was graded as “Network Security” specialty discipline for national Defense in 2016. Computer Science and Technology is national first-level specialty and key specialty of Heilongjiang Province.
Having undertaken over 500 projects altogether, including Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial planning projects, and projects of different levels, the Computer Science and Technology has got 20 prizes for scientific and technical achievement. More than 2000 academic papers, 50 academic books and teaching materials have been published with 550 of the papers collected by three Indexes.
In the past 5 years, it has established stable research fields in network and information security technology, intelligent computing and optimized design theory, database and information management system, artificial intelligence and application, image processing and computer vision, computer graphics and CAD, inserted system and control technology. In the fourth round of discipline assessment in 2016, it went into 30%of 238 universities (Ranked Level B).
Business Administrationwas entitled to grant master degree of “Technical Economy and Management” in 1998, doctor degree of “Technical Economy and Management”, and authority for first-level doctoral degree of “Business Administration” in 2006. Approved in 2012, its Postdoctoral research station was listed into leading talent team of provincial level in 2013. In the fourth round of discipline assessment in 2017, it went into 20%-30% of 240 universities (ranked Level B). Recently, authority of first-level doctor degree was granted, which is still in publicity period.
Business Administration has four major research fields, including technical economy and management, strategic management, business administration, and human resource. Its teaching teams are made up of Longjiang Scholar professors, teachers supported by special subsidy from national government, teachers supported by special subsidy from Heilongjiang government, young and middle-aged experts of provincial level, who are influential in academic field home and abroad. In recent years, 80 academic papers have been published in academic journals (CSSCI or above), 20 prizes of provincial level or above have been gained. Professor Qi Liangqun was awarded one of the Chinese influential scholars in philosophy and social science fields.
Management science and engineering, originating from the former “industrial management engineering”, was founded in 1982, which was entitled to grant master degree in 1995 and doctor degree in 2003. The postdoctoral research station was approved in 2009. Management science and engineering, the first batch of key disciplines in 2002, was listed into one of the provincial disciplines with preponderant characteristics. Getting “excellence” in 2009 assessment, this discipline was certified as provincial key discipline leading team in 2002, upgraded into provincial leading talent team in 2013, and selected to provincial leading talent team “535 project”(the second level) construction plan. In the fourth round of national discipline assessment in 2017, management science and engineering in our university was evaluated as “Level B”.
In recent years, we have undertaken Natural Science Foundation of China, and National Social Science Foundation. We encourage and support young and middle-aged teachers to be visiting scholars abroad. There are four dominant research fields including high-tech development and strategic management, information management and information system, analysis and optimization of complex system, and management of scientific and technical innovation.
In our teaching team, we have 2 teachers supported by special subsidy from national government, 2 Longjiang Scholars and Special Term Professor, one excellent young and middle-aged expert of provincial level, 4 leaders and reserve leaders of the provincial leading talent team. 21 teachers have been appointed as standing directors, deputy directors, or members of national and provincial academic committee. Over 300 academic papers have been published in high-level journals, 4 of which have been selected into ESI highly-cited papers (the first 1%), and 1 of which have been chosen as hot paper (the first 0.1%) and 12 academic books have been published by the publishing houses of state-level. We organized 2 international academic conferences and summit forums and got over 30 prizes of provincial and ministerial level. In 2015, Professor Wang Hongqi, academic leader, was awarded one of the national 50 influential scholars in the field of “scientific research management”.
