Deputy Director of China Scholarship Council Cao Shihai Visits HUST

From December 20 to 22, the China Scholarship Council held in HUST three conferences concerning studying in Russia, namely, “Seminar on plans and support for outstanding high school graduates studying in Russia”, “Seminar on University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Scholarship” and “Seminar on Chinese Russian teachers and students in universities studying in Russia”.

On the afternoon of December 20, at the invitation of our school, Deputy Director General of the China Scholarship Council, Cao Shihai, and Director of Asian and African department, Li Xin, came to our school to guide the work and held a symposium on government-sponsored overseas study. Present at the meeting were related staff members of our school. Before the meeting, President Li Dayong met Deputy Director General Cao Shihai, and President Li extended his warm welcome and thanks for the support of the Council for many years.

At the meeting, Vice president Fang Wenbin first expressed warm welcome to Cao’s visited and extended sincere gratitude to the China Scholarship Council for choosing our school as the site of meeting. Then Vice president Fang introduced our school and the 13thFive-Year Plan especially in the planning of fundamental projects of international cooperation and exchanges of teachers to visit overseas school, as well as related training of staff members and students. He said that our school would send more teachers and staff members in management and training as well as students to study abroad, and it was expected for us to learn more about the related policies on government-sponsored overseas study, and to get more guidance and support from the council.

Deputy Director General Cao Shihai extended pleasure to visit our school and have opportunity to listen to the views from our members of faculty, and he then gave a report on the interpretation of the document “Government-sponsored Overseas Study”, detailing matters concerning the Scholarship Council, related policies, recounting government-sponsored overseas study in 2016 and introducing scholarship program abroad of 2017. Asia Department Director, Li Xin, went on to introduced the programs of studying in Russia, Israeli, and Japan.

On the mornings of December 21 and 22, staff of International Cooperation and Exchange Office and related personnel participated in “Seminar on University of Shanghai cooperation organization scholarship” and “Seminar on Chinese Russian teachers and students in universities studying in Russia”. At the seminar, the Russian scholarship project, including the Russian government scholarship, Russian professional talents training plan, exchange scholarship with the Moscow State University Exchange Scholarship and the University of St Petersburg, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization college scholarships, Support and plan of outstanding high school graduates to study in Russia, Support and plan of outstanding graduates in Russia, and Russian art projects were introduced in detail. Since 2008, a total of 105 teachers and 28 students in our school have won the qualifications for various programs to study overseas, promoting the all-round abilities of our faculty and students.
