Assessment of Undergraduate Majors Conference: Preparation and Arrangement

On the morning of July 14, Assessment of Undergraduate Majors Conference in 2016 was held in the 2nd Meeting Room of the New Teaching Building. Vice-president Liu Shenghui attended the meeting and delivered a speech, and present at the meeting were the following members: Director of Center of Higher Education Research and Teaching Quality Assessment, Wu Qiufeng, Standing Deputy Director of Office of Educational Administration, Song Qingkun, Dean of School of Computer Science and Technology, Chen Deyun, Vice Dean, Tang Yuanxin, Dean of School of Management, Qi Liangqun, Vice Dean of Teaching, Wang Yuqi, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Jiang Yufeng, Director of English Department, Ma Yanhui, Deputy Director of Center of Higher Education Research and Teaching Quality Assessment, Yang Wei and other related staff. The meeting was presided over by Director Wu Qiufeng.

During the meeting, Vice-president Liu Shenghui emphasized the significance of the assessment of undergraduate majors in the year of 2016, organized by Educational Supervisor Office of People’s Government of Heilongjiang Province, and made important instructions. Liu pointed out that the assessment was to get our majors known to the public and to adjust our majors to be more reasonable and distinctive, thus, making the cultivation of intellects a core position, improving the security system of undergraduate teaching quality and promoting the quality of teaching. He also stressed that the assessment was a crucial measure to test comprehensively whether the cultivating objectives were scientific, to enhance the schooling level and to strengthen connotation building. The three schools that would to be assessed should implement the related work carefully, informing the teachers of the significance of the assessment, because the result of assessment would be published to the public, which would also be an important measurement for the high school graduates to select and enroll in a future university. The dean of each school should be responsible for the assessment, supervising the work in all phases according to the assessment requirements.

Later, Director Wu explained the requirements from the assessment background, the progress and the next step of assessment. She noted that three majors of our university would be assessed from April to December in 2016, and they all had graduates over the past three years, and in our province, most universities had the majors for us to compare sensibly. So far all the preparations of the three majors have been ready and it was hoped that during the summer vacation further preparations should be made, including gathering and analyzing data, as well as filling in forms. All the staff in Center of Higher Education Research and Teaching Quality Assessment would work along with the departments in order to make the assessment go on smoothly.

Throughout the meeting, all the deans and deputy deans carried out a heated discussion concerning the problems facing them in the initial phase of preparation. Vice-president Liu pointed out that the challenge ahead was tough and it was necessary for all the staff to realize the significance of the assessment to the university.
