At 3:40 p.m. September 5, 2016, the Grand Opening Ceremony for 2016 Postgraduate Students of HUST was held at the Sport Center of West Campus, attended by President, Professor Li Dayong, Vice President, Professor Fang Wenbin, Directors of the postgraduate schools, Secretaries (Deputy Secretaries) of Departments of Student Work, Counselors of postgraduate students, all the staff of the Department of Postgraduate, as well as all the 2016 postgraduate students; the ceremony was hosted by Director of the Department of Postgraduate, Professor Ge Baojun.

The opening ceremony started with the national anthem of China. At the ceremony, on behalf of the postgraduate tutors, Doctoral Tutor, Professor Sun Fenglian addressed the assembly, extending a warm welcome and congratulation to the 2016 postgraduate students. Meanwhile as a postgraduate tutor, she put forward the following suggestions and hope: first, sticking to the faith in triumph, studying assiduously and pursing the excellence; second, pursuing the practical realm, being an honest person and devoted to learning; third, setting up a grand goal, taking a broad view of the world and having the courage to purse the dream.

Vice President Fang Wenbin delivered a speech at the ceremony. On behalf of HUST, he extended sincere welcome to 77 doctoral candidates and 948 master degree candidates and expressed the gratitude to the families and friends of the students. Associating his own education experience, Vice President Fang Wenbin enlightened the students with three sentences or questions. We will find a way or make one, but why do we pursue the postgraduate education? Nothing is easy, nothing is impossible, but how should we pursue the postgraduate education? One for all, all for one, but how should we do to be a qualified postgraduate student? In the end, Vice President Fang Wenbin gave his expectations and hope to the students.
